In ancient Greece, Agora functioned as a space of collective sensemaking, where dialogue, debate, and shared responsibility refined understanding over time. Intelligence emerged not just from a single authority, but also between people. Leadership was inseparable from civic responsibility and ethical presence.
In contrast, Sparta optimized for strength, obedience, and performance. Its system valued endurance and dominance over reflection and adaptability. It produced efficiency, cruelty and endless resilience.
Modern leadership culture has inherited far more from Sparta than from Agora.
